When a search and rescue response is required, the RCMP activates KSAR. From that moment forward, trained volunteers mobilize quickly, bringing specialized skills, equipment, and local knowledge to the situation.

Ground Search
and Rescue

KSAR conducts wilderness and urban ground searches for missing or overdue persons. Our teams are trained in navigation, tracking, search management, and medical response.

Technical & Specialized Rescue

KSAR members receive advanced training to operate safely in complex environments, including:

  • Rope rescue
  • Swiftwater and flood response
  • Winter and avalanche operations
  • Ice rescue
  • Search dogs (K9 support)

Community & Emergency Support

Beyond search and rescue, KSAR assists during wildfires, floods, evacuations, and other emergencies. We provide logistical support, evacuation assistance, and coordination during large-scale incidents.

Training & Readiness

KSAR volunteers train year-round to maintain professional standards. Training includes:

  • First aid and patient care
  • Navigation and search techniques
  • Team leadership and communications
  • Safety systems and equipment use
